The University’s Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR) is set to develop and produce a Universal Manual for the documentation of  Agricultural Statistics in Nigeria.

The Director of IFSERAR, Professor Segun Osinowo dropped the hint in an exclusive chat with UNAAB Bulletin.

He said the move is against the backdrop of persistent conflicts, associated with agricultural statistics, being released to the public by relevant agencies.

Prof. Osinowo pointed out that though the statistics being churned out by the agencies were accurate in most cases, he observed that sometimes they are ridiculously in sharp contrast.

He blamed the development on lack of common framework, to produce agricultural statistics, adding that IFSERAR is currently working round the clock to fill the vacuum by producing a manual that will guide agencies in the collection of statistics and data.

Prof. Osinowo said as part of efforts towards achieving the goal, IFSERAR penultimate week held a seminar titled, “Framework for Agricultural Statistics in IFSERAR Mandate States”.

According to him, the highlight of the objectives of the Seminar was to develop a Universal Manual for gathering Agricultural Statistics in Nigeria.

The Professor of Animal Physiology disclosed that a Committee, headed by Dr. G. N. Amahia, Acting Head, Department of Statistics, UNAAB had been set up to develop and produce a Universal Manual of Agricultural Statistics in Nigeria.
