The Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), is set to train 90 Academic Staff on data analysis before the end of the year. The Director of the Institute, Professor Akin Omotayo disclosed this at a 3-Day Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and the SAS Analytical Package (SAS), held recently at the Computer Laboratory of the Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC).

Professor Omotayo noted with dismay that many scientists lacked basic skills to analyze data as they often relied on the results handed-down to them by data analysts and as such, results were often inaccurate because of the limitations inherent in specialized fields like Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture and Biological Sciences, among others. He recalled that before the advent of modern technology, scientists were used to only command-based software.

He added that the training programme would assist those who lacked prior knowledge in data analysis. The first batch of 30 participants were trained, while others, mainly postgraduate students will be trained later in the year.
