The Department of Computer Science of the University has hosted the 3rd International Conference on Applied Information Technology with the theme, “Revitalising Pragmatic Approach in Information Technology”. Welcoming scholars and participants to the conference, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix Salako, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Morenike Dipeolu, appreciated the participants for creating time to be part of the conference. The Vice-Chancellor tasked them to take home knowledge from the resource persons as such would contribute not only to their development but that of the society at large.
Prof. Andrzej Rychlik, from the Institute of Information Technology Technical University, Lodz, Poland reiterated that technology in the 21st century was evolving beyond peoples’ imagination. According to Prof. Rychlik, computer and its components were getting miniaturised, because before now, people were used to 1G, 2G, 3G broad-bands, but recently, 4G had taken over, saying that in advanced countries, technological advancement had continued with the usage of 5G, 6G, and 7G broad-bands.
Represented by Prof. Victor Makinde of the Department of Physics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Prof. Andrzej charged all to be in tune with the changing wave of technology. Corroborating him, an Information Technology (IT) Expert, Mr. Adeoluwa Okanlawon tasked everyone, regardless of the IT background or not, to brace up now that the whirlwind of technology was making those, who are not aligning with it, to go into extinction like the Dinosaur. Mr. Adeoluwa said it was regrettable that in a few years’ to come, major jobs would have been taken over by robots, developed to do human tasks. He charged all participants to take training and retraining as paramount, and to also think of what they can do that the computer cannot offer, which would make an individual stand out.
The Special Adviser to the Ogun Governor on ICT, Mr. Dayo Abiodun also stressed the need for people to be productive with the use of data available to them and not use such for sending unnecessary messages. Mr. Abiodun encouraged participants to not rest on their oars as the ideas they had gathered would help to develop their immediate environment. Other dignitaries, who welcomed participants at the conference, were the Dean, COLPHYS, Prof. Adio Akinwale, and the Chairman, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Ogun State Chapter, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte.
