The World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE) based in FUNAAB will run new postgraduate courses designated as Master (M. AgSE) and doctorate (PhD AgSE) degrees in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment. CEADESE will also run short- term courses on Agricultural development and climate change adaptation. The post graduate and the short-term courses are designed to integrate entreprenuerial skills while the research projects are demand-driven and market oriented. The M. AgSE /PhD AgSE programme will have 5 options namely:
1. Crop Improvement and Seed Enterprise Development,
2. Livestock Science and Climate Change,
3. Food Processing and Value Addition,
4. Hydrology and climate change and
5. Mechanized agriculture under climate change.
ELIGIBILITY
1. The M. AgSE programe will generally be open to all agriculture graduates with B. Agric, B.Sc Agric, B. Tech Agric and B. Eng Agric. In some options like Hydrology and Mechanized Agriculture, B.Sc in physical, mathematical and chemical sciences will be eligible for the programme. Graduate with B.Sc in biological and social sciences may enter into the other options of the M. AgSE programme.
2. Since the programme is agriculture based applicants from academic backgrounds other than agriculture shall be required to audit relevant pre-requisite courses (that will be determined by course faculty) in basic agriculture under the B. Agric Programme of FUNAAB.
3. Applicants with degrees from Environmental fields are eligible to enter any of the options, provided relevant profiency to perform in the option can be demonstrated e.g. the need for mathematical backgrounds for Mechanization and Hydrology options.
4. The PhD AgSE programme will be open to Masters degree holders in relevant courses to the different options in the programme.
DURATION
M.AgSE
1. Course work along with dissertation for 4 Semesters
2. 3 – 6 months of Internship starting at the end of second semester
3. The third and fourth semesters are solely for research projects
4. M. AgSE candidates that are World bank scholars will not be funded beyond the 4th semester.
PhD AgSE
1. PhD AgSE programmes will be research based, spanning mínimum of 6 semesters.
Funded PhD AgSE programmes from the World Bank’s grant shall not be funded beyond the 6th semester (3 years).
