The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde, has commended the University for the “wonderful co-operation and assistance extended to the Board”, during the conduct of the first Dual Based Test and Computer Based Test held in April and May, 2013.
“It is on record that our modest effort is the first of its kind in a large-scale public examination in Nigeria and we are happy that your partnership with us forms the bedrock on which the success achieved was built”… “We shall continue to count on your support to forge ahead as we jointly take the nation’s educational sector to the world gallery”, he wrote.
Commenting on the letter, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Toyin Arowolo, said the establishment of the 500-seater laboratory was a
good initiative. The 500-Seater Computer Laboratory was described as a value addition to the University as well as a challenge to other Universities in the country to see the need to build their e-examination centres, for effective conduct of the Computer-Based Tests (CBT).
While congratulating the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University, Prof. Arowolo revealed that with the recent procurement of 200 additional computers, the Vice-Chancellor is not resting on his oars in improving the facilities in the laboratory.
He noted that with the success recorded with JAMB, the University will be a centre of attraction for other corporate bodies that may wish to embark on CBT exams in the process of recruiting their prospective staff, which will be in turn, a good source of income for FUNAAB.
He said that the closeness of the laboratory to the 2000-seater Mahmood Yakub Auditorium is a relief because it would take care of any spill-overs that the laboratory could not accommodate, he also expressed optimism that very soon, another 500-seater laboratory will be constructed.
Corroborating the DVC, (Academic), the Head, Information & Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), Dr. Olutayo Ajayi, thanked
Management for allowing the University to conduct the e-examination in conjunction with JAMB.
Dr. Ajayi noted that the Centre’s ability to conduct the e-exam, which was hitherto contracted to outsiders, was a source of encouragement in successfully carrying out the JAMB’s CBT examination.
He revealed that FUNAAB was among the 10 Centres that were able to successfully conduct the JAMB’s CBT exam, out of the 70 centres spread across the nation.
He stated the ICTREC’s ability to conduct the CBT exam will be a good source of revenue for the University, as the Centre is looking beyond merely conducting the internal e-exams, but helping other corporate bodies and other academic institutions within reach to conduct e-exams for their students.
Dr. Ajayi thanked the staff of the Centre for their support and determination to succeed, which he noted had been the impetus for achieving the feat in spite of the challenges they faced at the initial stage.
Meanwhile it would be re-called that the 500-seater computer laboratory was completed by the current administration earlier in May.
