The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole has charged the University Alumni Association to join the Management and other stakeholders in the drive to make FUNAAB a World-Class institution.
Speaking extempore at the 16th Annual Convention and 15th Annual Lecture Series of the University Alumni Association, held at Postgraduate School Auditorium on Saturday, Professor Oyewole also called on the Association to join the University in celebrating her 25th Anniversary.
The Vice-Chancellor in his unscripted speech titled, “Join Us” articulated many ways through which the Association can join fellow stakeholders in upgrading the University status to world-class.
According to him, one of such ways “is to serve as our idea bank. You can come up with initiative which we can use. We are also counting on you to show the values the University stands for because you are our mirror to the world. Our Alumni really need to serve as our quality Ambassadors”.
Besides, Professor Oyewole also stated that “there is a way our Alumni can connect us with opportunities to support our physical structures, equipments, among others using your God given offices and influence”
Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor further challenged Alumni of the University to support their Alma-mater through Scholarships, among others.
The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to invite the Alumni to participate fully in the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the University.
Apart from asking them to attend the activities lined-up for the celebration, Professor Oyewole solicited their assistance in the area of endowment, sponsorship and publicity of the anniversary in the media.
The Vice-Chancellor who stated that he is not only responsible to the Governing Council among others declared that he is also responsible to Alumni and as such will always intimate them of the activities of his administration.
Informing the Alumni that he is 7 months, 14 days old in office, Professor Oyewole said he inherited 25 ongoing projects, disclosing that his administration has completed 13 of it.
He expressed the readiness of the Management to build three (3) new Science Laboratories and other facilities to take care of the increasing population of students.
Professor Oyewole also informed the Association that his administration has put in place Office for Advancement, to enhance the development of the University.
He called for the input and support of the Association towards assisting the new office in achieving its goals.
The Vice-Chancellor specifically requested for the soft copy of the lecture of the Guest Lecturer, Dr Joe Atungwu noting that information therein will assist the new Centre greatly.
Professor Oyewole expressed gratitude to God for the success of FUNAAB Alumni observing that “when FUNAAB started, we used to depend on University of Ibadan, University of Lagos for lecturers but today in our Colleges, Department and Directorates we have Alumni who are lecturers and non-teaching staff, and they are doing very well”
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the Association on the completion of its Secretariat, stressing it is not completed until it is well furnished.
