LASU FPY Students Visit FUNAAB for Mentorship

Farm Practical Year (FPY) students from the Lagos State University (LASU), School of Agriculture, Epe, on September 5, 2024, visited the Centre for Community-Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) for mentorship and an intensive understudy programme.

While touring FUNAAB’s facilities with his students, the Ag. Dean of LASU’s School of Agriculture, Prof. Olatunji Abanikannda, said that FUNAAB was specifically chosen for the visit because of its remarkable achievements in the agricultural sector, both nationally and globally.

He commended FUNAAB’s consistent recognition and numerous accolades, underscoring the University’s leadership role in agricultural education and research.

Welcoming the LASU students, Dr. Shakirat Ibrahim, Ag. Director of COBFAS emphasised the significance of their practical year. She urged them to fully utilise FUNAAB’s wealth of expertise, cutting-edge facilities, and resources to broaden their practical knowledge in agriculture.

During the visit, the LASU students explored several key facilities, including DUFARMS Poultry, Rabbitry, Layers Pen, Grain Processing Unit, the COBFAS Irrigation Farm, Tomato Farm, Tractor Shed, as well as the Large and Small Ruminant Units.

They received hands-on training with modern farm equipment and interacted with FUNAAB’s seasoned agricultural experts, gaining invaluable insights into practical farm management.

Miss Olamide Akinsemoyin from the Department of Animal Science and Olabode Feyisayo from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management at LASU both expressed their gratitude for the experience. They commended FUNAAB’s infrastructure and expertise, noting that the visit was not only educational but also provided them with critical skills that would enhance their academic and professional development in agriculture.
