The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence with the successful 2024/2025 Academic Session Library Registration and Orientation for new and returning students. The event, held on October 24, 2024, at the Wole Soyinka Library, attracted a large turnout and was described as peaceful and well-organised, a model that other institutions could emulate.
Speaking during the event, the University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi, noted the importance of the exercise, adding that it ensures proper student registration and promotes Library usage. “The Library is a critical resource for academic success,” Prof. Owolabi remarked, adding that the Student Union Government (SUG) plays a key role in initiating the programme each year.
Highlighting the significance of Library usage, Prof. Owolabi stressed that effective use of Library resources can significantly enhance students’ academic performance. “We want to catch them young by encouraging early engagement with the Library,” he said. The Library offers a range of services, including access to e-resources, book borrowing, and various quiet study spaces, the University Librarian stated.
According to him, security is also a priority, with registration helping to ensure that only bonafide students can access the University’s 15 libraries. He stressed that the facilities were equipped with 24-hour electricity and inverters to support uninterrupted study sessions. Prof. Owolabi also highlighted the availability of bindery services, essential for student projects, as part of the Library’s comprehensive offerings.
The event was attended by several key figures, including Dr. Idayat Agboola, Dr. Nancy Okorie, and Mr. Rasaq Solanke, along with other Library and University staff, all contributing to the smooth execution of the programme.
