- Organising and running short laboratory-based courses in practical modern Biotechnology for scientists from Nigeria and the West African Sub region. This is in order to help build up a critical mass of West African Scientists, competent in the new science, who would launch the sub-region into the recombinant DNA Technology whirlwind. There have been 15 such workshops, since 2000 till date. The Centre is planning for a new series of short courses for undergraduates to enable them understand the modern Biotechnology trend in the world for sustainable development.
- Considering all matters relating to the application of Biotechnology for sustainable Agriculture.
- Coordinating and serving as a rallying point for Biotechnological activities in FUNAAB and its vicinity.
- Carrying out both in-house and collaborative research in relevant areas of Biotechnology.
Present Director of Biotechnology Centre is Prof. O. M. Onagbesan (B.Sc., M.Sc. Ph.D.)
