In a significant move to support its cleaning contractors amid rising economic challenges, the Management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has approved an upward review of contract sums. The announcement, made through the Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM), was received with immense relief and gratitude by the contractors, who have faced increasing operational costs.

The decision was unveiled during a well-attended meeting at the Conference Room of the Directorate of Public Relations, where the Coordinator of DEM, Mr. Olanrewaju Bello alongside senior officials, reassured contractors of the University’s commitment to their welfare.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bello acknowledged the financial strain contractors have been enduring, noting the University’s recognition of their essential role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for staff and students.

“We understand the challenges you face in delivering your services, especially with the current economic realities,” he stated. “This review is a reflection of FUNAAB’s dedication to fair and sustainable partnerships, ensuring that our contractors can continue to perform their duties effectively.”

The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from the contractors, led by their chairman, Senior Apostle Adeleke. Expressing heartfelt appreciation on behalf of his colleagues, Apostle Adeleke lauded the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for his proactive and compassionate decision.

“This has been a long-standing request, and today, Management has shown great leadership by listening to our concerns,” he said. “We have remained committed to upholding the University’s sanitation standards despite economic hardships, and this gesture would go a long way in sustaining our operations.”

Apostle Adeleke also pledged that contractors would reciprocate the University’s goodwill by enhancing their service delivery. “With this increase, we are committed to improving our equipment, strengthening our workforce, and ensuring a cleaner and more hygienic environment for all,” he affirmed.
