The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, last Thursday unveiled new uniforms for drivers in the employment of the University’s Management Committee on Transportation (MANCOT).
Unveiling the Uniform, Professor Oyewole described it as a sign of many good things for MANCOT and its employees, especially the drivers.
The Vice-Chancellor said unlike before when the drivers were operating without corporate identity, he stressed that the uniforms would bestow new image and identity on the drivers.
Professor Oyewole, however, pointed out that apart from provision of the official uniforms; the University was already working towards improving the operations of MANCOT as well as the welfare of its personnel.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Management had sent a proposal to the Governing Council that will lead to the commercialization of the operations of MANCOT.
He explained that as a result of the ongoing reforms, “MANCOT should be able to offer enhanced services to the University, such that request for drivers by the University will be sourced from MANCOT”.
He described the reforms in MANCOT as a response to the Federal Government’s recent directive to outsource some services in the Universities, including driving, cleaning and security.
Responding, the Chairman of MANCOT, Dr. Samson Awokola, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for giving the Committee a new lease of life.
Dr. Awokola described the intervention of Management as a challenge to do more, assuring that MANCOT will not betray the confidence reposed in it by the University.
