The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole has disclosed that the University will soon begin ‘Open Day’, to enable parents, guardians and sponsors seek information from Departments on the day to day activities of their wards.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this, during the Matriculation Ceremony of new students for the 2012/2013 Academic Session, held at the 2,000 capacity Professor Mahmood Yakubu Lecture Theatre.

Professor Oyewole stressed the need for making a total man from cradle, urging the parents, sponsors and guardians to take keen interest in the activities of their wards.

According to him, “Pray for them; ensure that they shun bad companies and associations. Encourage them on the part of discipline and reasonableness”.

Professor Oyewole disclosed that the University has zero tolerance for academic laziness, truancy, indiscipline, vandalism, disrespect for constituted authorities, rascality, irresponsible unionism and cultism.

According to him, “FUNAAB is convinced that the pursuit of academic work flourishes best in a free and peaceful environment that is devoid of rancour, anti-social behaviours and other unwarranted disturbances”.

He, therefore, charged the newly-matriculated students to prepare their minds to complete their studies on schedule, adding that any student who does not want to comply with acceptable norms and practices of a decent society would certainly, be met with adequate sanctions.

On sports, recreation and wellness, the Vice-Chancellor declared that they are part of co-curricular activities which are essential to the total development of students.

He said that the University recognizes and rewards excellence in sports, stressing that scholarships have been awarded to outstanding sportsmen and women who have brought honours to the Institution over the years.

The Vice-Chancellor, however paid glowing tribute to five students for their exemplary performance in the admissions screening process.

They are: Fanibuyan, Boluwatife Oluwafemi with JAMB Registration Number, 25959707EF, Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management who had the highest UTME Score of 293; Adewale, Funmilayo Dorcas with JAMB Registration Number 26022399FC of the Department of Microbiology who also had the highest Post-UTME Score of 82% for female while Abdul, Daniel Ayomide with JAMB Registration Number, 25864363CE, Department of Banking and Finance had the highest PUTME Score of 82% for male.

Others are Jimoh, Ayodele Ezekiel with Pre-Degree Number, PDG 11/0661, Department Mechanical Engineering who had the highest Pre-Degree Score of 91 and Jumbo, Kingsley Izu with JAMB Registration Number, 29036549DJ, Department of Microbiology with the highest Direct Entry Point of 84.83.
