Professor Saliu Alao Amolegbe was born to the family of late Pa Hassan Amolegbe in 1975. Dr Amolegbe attended ALG Primary School, Oke Aregba, Abeokuta (1983-’88) and Baptist Boys‘ High School Oke-Saje Abeokuta, Ogun State between 1989 and 1994.
He began his University education at University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) now Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemical Sciences in 2000. Prof. Amolegbe proceeded to the Prestigious University of Ilorin where he obtained M.Sc.& Ph.D degrees in Inorganic Chemistry, 2004 & 2010 respectively and emerged best student among his Postgraduate classmates. During his Ph.D programme, he travelled to the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science (ICCAS) Beijing, China under TWAS-CAS Postgraduate Fellowships in 2007. Prof. Amolegbe is a recipient of prestigious Award of Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) utilised at Prof. Shinya Hayami’s Chemistry laboratory, Postgraduate School of Science, Kumamoto University, Japan.
Prof. Amolegbe began his carrier as scientific officer briefly at the Ogun State Ministry of Health (Research and Planning Unit) between September ’04 - April 2005, before proceeded to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta in the Department of Science Laboratory (SLT) from May - October, 2005. He then joined his Alma Mater, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in November, 2005 as Assistant lecturer and rose through the ranks to become Associate Professor in Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry in 2018 at the Department of Chemistry, FUNAAB. Interestingly, Prof. Amolegbe has published over 47 scientific articles of which many are international papers appeared in NATURE, Sci Report. Journal, and in National and Local articles majorly in the area of drug delivery systems.
Prof. Amolegbe and his Research Team in Japan in 2015 developed the first World Nanosilica Antimalarial Drug against Malaria parasite.
He has travelled far wide for Conferences and Research Symposia. He is a member of Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Society for Biomaterial and Inorganic Organ (SBIO) and advisor of American Chemical Society Nigeria – FUNAAB Student chapter among others.
Professor Amolegbe is the Head Quality Control and Assurance Unit of Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP), FUNAAB. Prof. Amolegbe is happily married and blessed with children.
