The Nigerian Economic Society (NES), Ogun State Chapter, was officially inaugurated today, February 20, 2025, at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, received the Beacon of Excellence Award for his contributions to economic and agricultural development.

In his Opening Remarks, Prof. Kehinde commended NES for establishing the Ogun Chapter, emphasising its strategic role in fostering economic growth in Nigeria’s most industrialised state. He urged the Society to enlighten citizens and promote policies that integrate agriculture and economic transformation.

In her Welcome Address, the Chairperson of NES Ogun State Chapter, Prof. Comfort Amire, highlighted the Chapter’s mission to advance economic research, dialogue, and policy-making for sustainable development. Speaking also, the Keynote speaker, Prof. Evans Osabuohien, underscored the role of economists in resource maximisation and policy advisory, noting Ogun State’s economic potential.
The NES President, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, lauded the inauguration as a step toward decentralising the Society’s impact, ensuring grassroots economic engagement.

Dignitaries at the event included representatives of traditional rulers, government officials, and academics from various institutions.
