Nestle Nigeria Plc and the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), through its Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC), are set to break new grounds in the cultivation and utilization of crops.

The renewed initiative would also enhance improved nourishment of the Nigerian people and further empowerment of the nation’s teeming farmers.

This was the highpoint of a 2-day meeting between Nestle Nigeria Plc and AMREC, hosted by the latter and witnessed by Nestle’s top shot from Switzerland, Mr. Theo Mxakwe and its Corporate Affairs Manager (Nigeria), Dr. Sam Adenekan.

According to a post-event Press Release, issued by AMREC’s Programme Leader for Media and Farm Broadcast, Mr. O. Oyekunle, Nestle Plc, at the end of the visit, which took them to Olorunda and Saki villages, in Ogun and Oyo States respectively, expressed satisfaction at AMREC’s high level performance.

The Release added that Nestle Plc. has therefore raised its stake of partnership with the University, promising another intervention in the cultivation of cassava crop, in due course.

Presently, Nestle Plc and AMREC are collaborating in the areas of Soyabean production and popularization, farm family health, among others, in several villages in Southwest, Nigeria.

The visit, which was coordinated by the new Director of AMREC, Prof. (Mrs) Carolyn Afolami, was attended by over 100 farmers, who represented farmers’ groups and other stakeholders.

Besides, the Farm Family Health Project was showcased to the visitors at Olorunda Village, where farmers, particularly, women groups, were further exposed to the preparation and utilization of Soyabean recipes.
