Officials from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Abeokuta, recently visited the University Management, to create awareness on the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP). Leading the team, the State Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Boore, stated that NHIS was a Federal Government Agency, established to promote, regulate and facilitate effective implementation of Social Health Insurance programmes to enhance easy access to affordable and qualitative healthcare for all Nigerians. He noted that in pursuance of this objective, TISHIP was designed to provide healthcare coverage to all students of tertiary institutions nationwide.
Mr. Boore availed the University on the benefits of TISHIP and its operational guidelines. Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Felix Salako, expressed appreciation to the team and informed its members that TISHIP was already operational in the University. He also assured them of the University’s adherence to official rules and regulations, adding that FUNAAB had a very formidable NHIS Unit, while the Coordinator of NHIS in FUNAAB, Dr. Olusola Akinwande provided the delegates with information on the operations of his Unit.
