The Management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has drawn the attention of staff to a directive by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the closure of satellite campuses and study centres operated by some Nigerian universities.

According to a circular dated April 8, 2026, the Commission reaffirmed an earlier directive of the Federal Government, communicated through the Federal Executive Council of Nigeria, which mandated the shutdown of such centres. The directive, originally conveyed via a circular referenced NUC/ES/138/VOL.XXXV/III/207 and dated December 11, 2000, was based on the failure of these satellite campuses and study centres to meet the required standards for their establishment.

The NUC expressed concern over the resurgence of these centres by some universities, describing the development as a violation of extant government directives.

Consequently, the Commission reiterated that no Nigerian university has the approval to run academic programmes outside its officially approved campuses. It further emphasised that certificates obtained from unapproved satellite campuses or study centres are not recognised for employment or career advancement.

The University Management, therefore, urges all staff to take note of the directive and ensure strict compliance.
