Her joy knew no bound immediately the FUNAAB Bulletin crew informed her that the University she served as Pioneer Registrar, Pioneer Secretary to Governing Council, Pioneer Secretary to Senate, among others is 25. The noble Princess of Egbaland could not hide her joy as smile enveloped her cheeks, while her facial outlook brightened up, making her to look younger as she adjusted her glasses with a renewed confidence. Still radiating warmth and passion for the University, Shoboyejo who became Registrar in 1989 thanked the Almighty profusely for making FUNAAB a success story since its establishment. She noted with joy the monumental development which the University has recorded since she left the institution. Princess Shoboyejo stated that what gladdens her most is the fact that successive Management, Staff and Students of the University did not destroy the strong foundation the pioneering team of Professor Nimbe Adedipe, herself and others laid at inception. Ascribing the University success to visionary leadership, understanding and cooperation of staff and students, the Bilingualist enjoined them to continue in that manner for the progress and development of the University. ”I am glad FUNAAB is now 25. You know from time to time one is a little bit away and in short time when you come back, you hardly recognize the campus because of so many giant stride been made every now and then”. I congratulate the Vice-Chancellor, staff, students and all service providers because you have been able to work hand-in-hand. Princess Shoboyejo who described the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole as a “scholar who had seen it all, having been there from the beginning”, expressed confidence that he will take the University to a greater height. She, however, enjoined the University not to settle for her “local champion” status, declaring that it is high time for FUNAAB to start recording feat and exploit in the areas of teaching, research and extension service. Her words, “Twenty Five Years of existence is a challenge to FUNAAB. FUNAAB must not be complacent. Don’t ever get into the areas of complacency why did I say that, if you look at FUNAAB in relation to Nigerian Universities, you may excel at that level”. “But you must look at larger picture of FUNAAB relative to African Universities. What is your position? The kind of vision that I see in future is something that will use the manpower that we have right now. A lot of our graduates are unemployed now. We have to look for opportunity for them by turning them to job creators”, she added. |
