The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman for the Zone F of the Pre-NUGA competition, Professor Chryss Onwuka, has assured that the University will excel at the end of the games.

Professor Onwuka, who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), gave this optimism during a Press Briefing that preceded the commencement of the games.

He noted that nine Universities in the South-West would be contesting in 13 games which include: Football, Handball, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Judo and Taekwondo.

The LOC Chairman disclosed that the University’s Sport Centre, Alake Sports Centre, MKO Abiola Stadium and the Swimming Pool Side of the Adesba International Hotel, Abeokuta, are the venues for the games.

Professor Onwuka added that the University had put in place, various Sub-Committees, to ensure a successful hosting and lessen the burden of the LOC, namely: Technical, Transport/Logistics, Accreditation, Catering, Accommodation, Publicity, Fund-Raising and Security.

To forestall incidences of cheating, doping and other sharp practices, during the games, the University had enlisted the services of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Sports’ Council, Ogun State Police Command and the University’s Man ‘O’ War, he added.

Responding to the issue of mercenaries, the LOC Chairman stated that “the University will go online for spot check and anybody we caught will be sent packing”, he warned.

Present at the Press Briefing were the University’s Sports’ Committee Chairman, Dr. Sam Wobo; Chief Coach, Mr. Victor Oshuntolu; and other LOC members.
