Research interest:  Studies of the defensive secretion of Zonocerus variegatus

Professor A. B. Idowu obtained his first degree in Zoology from the then Ondo State University now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti with a Second Class Upper in 1986. He proceeded to the prestigious premier University of Ibadan, Ibadan where he studied and specialized in Animal Physiology at the Department of Zoology and obtained M.Sc (Hons) Zoology on Zoology on Animal Physiology in 1988 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1995.

From April 1992 – February 1995, he was Asst. Lecturer, Department of Biological Sciences, UNAAB. From 1995 – September 1997, he was Lecturer II: Department of Biological Sciences. From 1997 – September 2000, he was Lecturer I: Department of Biological Sciences. From 2000 – September 2003, he was Senior Lecturer: Department of Biological Sciences. He rose higher as a Reader from October 2003 till 2006 when he assumed a full professorial chair. He was later, between January 2008 and April 2009 an Associate Professor at the University of Lagos for his sabbatical leave. Professor Idowu has fought many battles on this campus when injustice stares him in the face. He believes as the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil”. He is not too diplomatic; for he believes an academic must be able to speak his/her mind at all time. He respects men but only fear God. He has supervised over 120 undergraduate students. With postgraduate students, he has 7 as major supervisor and has co-supervised several others within without his department. He has produced 3 Ph.D graduates; Dr. Kehinde Ademolu, Dr. Dele Adeyi and Dr. Adeyemi Ajao. He has not less than six major researches in progress, with particular interest in Zonocerus variegatus. To this thorough student of knowledge are not less 87 papers in reputable journals in and outside the country to his credit. He is published in not less than 22 proceedings.
