Prof. Olubayo Timothy OLATEJU has been involved with the construction industry as a designer, a contractor, a researcher and as a lecturer for over 40 years. He was trained in the United States of America both in Howard U. and Purdue U. and had well blended experience in the academics and consultancy, and was at one time a Computer Specialist with the General Electric Corporation of America as an intern.
Since returning to Nigeria in 1975, Prof. Olateju has had tremendous exposures in the Nigerian construction industry as Policy Formulator for and in government, Researcher, Designer and Constructor in various aspects of Civil Engineering Practice, including Teaching Courses in Structural/Construction Engineering, Highway Engineering, Engineering Surveying, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering, to name a few. He simultaneously headed and nurtured the Dept. of Building at O.A.U. Ile Ife, from infancy to one FULLY Accredited, Twice, by both NUC and CORBON. He was also Registrar of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) where he worked assiduously to see to the establishment of Builders’ Registration Council (CORBON). He was one of the Nigerian professionals in both Engineering and Environmental fields to formulate the National Construction Policy, the National Policy on the Environment and the National Building Code. He was Examiner for a number of professional courses of NIOB and NSE and has worked as External Examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree examinations and theses defence in many Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics including UNILAG, UNILORIN, UI, Anambra State U, Nnamdi Azukiwe U, Kwara State Poly, Kano State Poly, etc.. He also served on number Accreditation Visitations to many universities and polytechnics for both National Universities Commission and CORBON for over 10 years. He voluntarily retired from Obafemi Awolowo University in the year 2000 at the age of 56.

Apart from his rich professional experience Engr. (Prof.) Olateju has taken active part in politics which has earned him appointments as state Commissioner at various times in Oyo State. First, he was Commissioner of Special Duties between 1982-1983, and Second, between 1999 and 2003, under Comrade Lam Adesina in the Ministries of Agriculture, Lands and Housing, and Establishment and Training. He is also a Justice of the Peace (J P.) in Oyo State.
Prof Olateju has supervised 5 Ph.D., 20 M. Sc. and 22 PGD students of OAU and LAUTECH. He has published over 100 Journal Articles in reputable Local and International professional engineering journals on Structures, Construction, and Management of construction projects with emphasis on indigenous building construction techniques, material and human resources management, and optimization for the production of the ultimate low cost housing and other infrastructures. He has also written over 50 Technical Reports on Civil Engineering Designs, Construction, Site Safety, and health on construction sites, etc., as well as participated in several Local and International Workshops and Conferences on civil engineering management, technical personnel capacity building, entrepreneurship in engineering, etc. He has also contributed to Five Published Books, and edited and published Three Conference and Workshop Proceedings.
