The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde has stated that quality assurance was vital to achieving the vision and mission of any organisation, warning that without it, organisations risk premature failure.

Prof. Kehinde disclosed this at a One-Day Workshop organised for members of the University’s Quality Assurance Committee, where he stressed the University Management’s commitment to quality assurance and control.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that quality assurance was crucial to prevent system collapse.

He, therefore, commended the Resource Persons for their expertise and urged committee members to attentively engage with the Workshop’s lectures.

In his Lecture, titled “Enhancing Internal Quality Control and Assurance System,” Prof. Adesoji Olaniran, Director, Directorate of Quality Control and Assurance at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), stated the role of Quality Assurance Engineers in ensuring products meet quality standards.

He asserted that prioritising quality assurance could elevate the country’s educational policy, highlighting the importance of internal quality assurance personnel in producing high-quality graduates.

Prof. Adesoji further asserted the need for institutional management to motivate staff members, as motivated staff were integral to quality assurance.

He urged FUNAAB’s Management to support the Quality Assurance Committee in monitoring activities, observing trainers, and assessing performance.

On his part, Prof. Olufemi Saibu, Director, Directorate of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), who presented a paper, titled “Quality Assurance Practices for Effective Service Delivery in Higher Institutions in Nigeria,” pointed out that individual lecturers should not change timetables without approval from the institution’s Timetable Committee.

Prof. Saibu advocated for the evaluation of Colleges, Departments, and Units at the end of each semester or session to ensure that students receive value for their money.

He stressed the importance of addressing service failures to maintain student and stakeholder satisfaction and recommended that the Quality Assurance Committee discharges their duties impartially.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, Prof. Segun Oladoye, Director, Quality Control and Assurance at FUNAAB, highlighted the University’s dedication to quality assurance, noting that the committee was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor earlier in the year.

He assured that the Committee would continue to uphold the standards expected by the University Community.

Meanwhile, the Workshop provided participants with the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas on the importance of maintaining quality assurance in the University.
