The Registry Department of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, dedication, and outstanding service with the successful hosting of its Second Symposium and Third Staff Spotlight Award Ceremony today, February 18, 2026.
Declaring the twin events open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, described the occasion as both symbolic and strategic. He noted that while the symposium provided a platform for professional dialogue and innovation in University administration, the Spotlight Award ceremony recognised merit, dedication, and impactful service delivery.
According to him, the Registry remains central to the effective governance and administration of the University. He identified professionalism, resilience, and commitment as critical pillars that strengthen institutional stability and support FUNAAB’s core mandates of teaching, research, and community service.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Registry for sustaining a culture of excellence and accountability, assuring staff of Management’s continued support towards advancing administrative reforms and best practices.
Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, described the Spotlight Award as a strategic initiative deliberately designed to identify, celebrate, and reward excellence within the Registry. He emphasised that the ceremony was not “a mere event without substance,” but a conscious investment in the University’s greatest asset, its people.
“The award provides a vital platform to publicly acknowledge staff members who have gone above and beyond in the discharge of their duties,” he stated, while applauding the Spotlight Committee for its diligence. He added that by celebrating exemplary staff, the Registry seeks to inspire healthy competition, commitment, and continuous improvement across the system.
Dr. Adeniyi further noted that beyond recognition, the quarterly gathering serves as an avenue for professional growth, encouraging staff to “learn, unlearn, and relearn” in response to the evolving demands of the modern workplace.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Spotlight Committee, Mrs. Oluwakemi Banuso, welcomed participants and commended the Registrar for what she described as a visionary initiative that continues to promote excellence and outstanding service within the University Community.
The professional development segment of the programme featured a lecture delivered by the Guest Speaker, Mr. Moses Ayanda, a Senior Deputy Registrar in the University, on the theme, “Enhanced Attitudinal Change and Work Ethics for Optimal Output.”
In his presentation, Mr. Ayanda defined attitude as the way individuals think, feel, and behave towards people and situations, stressing that it reflects in speech, reactions, and work performance. He noted that a positive attitude yields positive outcomes, while a negative disposition can damage personal reputation and workplace morale.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the Registry in admissions, record-keeping, and administrative coordination, he maintained that the effectiveness of the institution is closely linked to the professionalism of Registry personnel. On work ethics, he stressed the importance of trustworthiness, punctuality, accountability, and respectful engagement with colleagues and students.
He distinguished between punctuality and regularity, explaining that physical presence at work must be complemented by timely resumption of duties. Staff were cautioned against absenteeism, indiscipline, and actions capable of tarnishing the University’s image. He also urged participants to prioritise their physical and mental well-being, noting that sustained productivity and excellence depend on good health.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Best Registry Staff Award to Mr. Oluwafemi Aina, who received a certificate of recognition and a cash prize for his outstanding dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service.
