A former Registrar of the University of Ibadan (UI) Ibadan, Oyo state, Chief (Mrs) Mojisola Ladipo, has declared that the Registry remains the engine room and indispensable bridge between students and university management, stressing that the welfare of students, academic and non-teaching staff largely depends on the effectiveness of the Registry staff.

Speaking as a Guest Lecturer at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Registry Annual Lecture Series titled “Enhancing Student Experience Through Innovation and Optimal Service Delivery in the Registry” held at the Red Senate Chamber, of the University, Chief Mrs. Ladipo said the old era when Registrars and Registry staff were seen but not heard in statutory meetings is over.

“Registry staff can and should be heard at every meeting of the institution. A Registrar who has vital information must not sit silently; he or she must contribute meaningfully,” she stated, adding that the Registry is the custodian of critical records for admissions, convocations, and staff matters, making its role impossible to overemphasise.

Urging Registry personnel to embrace digital transformation, the seasoned administrator warned that remaining analogue in the 21st century could expose staff to unnecessary risks, including tampering with vital documents. “Move from manual to digital to remain relevant and protect the integrity of records,” she advised.

Chief Mrs. Ladipo charged Registry staff to always treat students as their most important customers, reminding them that “without students, there will be no Registry staff on campus.” She equally appealed to the University Management nationwide to celebrate and recognise outstanding Registry personnel, urging a shift “from being seen as bottlenecks to becoming the backbone of the University.”

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, commended Chief (Mrs) Ladipo as “a seasoned administrator par excellence and a role model,” while appreciating the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, for transforming the Registry Department within one year in office. “The Registrar has raised the standard of the Registry to an enviable height; others should emulate this zeal,” Prof. Kehinde said.

The Vice-Chancellor described the lecture as an additional boost to human capacity development in the young but fast-rising University and lauded Registry staff for their immense contributions to FUNAAB’s growth.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, Dr. Titus Adeniyi said the annual lecture series underscores the Registry’s commitment to intellectual engagement and professional excellence. He described participants as “architects of the University experience” with the sacred duty of shaping future leaders.

Registry staff from various tertiary institutions in Ogun and Lagos States attended the well-delivered lecture, including McPherson University, Chrisland University, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Crescent University, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, and the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA).
