Stakeholders mostly from the Host Communities and the general public in diaspora have been pouring accolades, commendation and appreciation to the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako and his Management team for rehabilitating the deplorable 5.6km Camp/Alabata Road.

Of late the social media is awash with messages of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for transforming the booby trap called Camp/Alabata Road to safe haven for motorists, commuters and pedestrians with the rehabilitation of the busy route.

Others, especially from the internal public of the University extolled the sterling qualities of Professor Salako, describing him aptly as making his word his bond.

It would be recalled that during the last Congregation Meeting, Professor Salako while rendering the stewardship of his Administration’s first year in office, which was highly commended for being impactful, disclosed that one of the immediate interventions of his Administration is to fix the Camp/Alabata Road and relieve users of the nightmares of cluster of pot holes.

Barely five (5) months after, Professor Salako has practically demonstrated that he has kept faith with his promise “as the road is as good as completed”, according to the Director of Physical Planning, Architect Babatunde Anasanwo.

Speaking in an exclusive chat with FUNAAB Bulletin, Architect Anasanwo said “The University has made tremendous progress and the rehabilitation is almost completed because the most critical areas have been taken care of”.

“We have taken care of the critical portions of the road covering Camp to Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA). What is left now is the patching towards FUNAAB Main Gate, but we, have done the critical portions”, he added.

Even with the state of the road now nearing completion, outpouring of commendations have been trailing Prof. Salako and his team for taking the initiative of fixing the road.

Said Adebiyi Williams, “keep on the good job Sir, the good Lord will see you through” while Yussuff Michael said “this is just the beginning of great things in FUNAAB.  Greater things than before are still coming into manifestation in Jesus name”.

He continued, “I also appreciate the efforts of his Cabinet, you will eat the good of the land in the name of Jesus Christ”.

A Community Leader who gave his name as Baale Adekunle also congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and his team wishing them more successes.

Taofeek Agbetogun said “we appreciate your efforts Sir, kudos to all your Management team” while Adenekan Olufemi, said “well done my great Prof Sir.  God bless and increase you always.

Commending the Vice-Chancellor and his team during a recent meeting with Management, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alabata Road Unit, Mr. Adewale Adegboyega described the rehabilitation as a welcome relief to transporters.

He recalled that hitherto, deplorable State of the road forced some of their members to pull out of the Camp/Alabata Road and relocated to other routes, expressing joy that the rehabilitation will give the road its pride of place among NURTW members.

Speaking in the same vein, the Chairman of ACCOMORAN, Alabata Unit, Mr. Fatai Bisiriyu appreciated Professor Salako for thinking beyond the University Campus by bringing the influence of the institution to bear positively on the host community.

Similarly, in his appreciative text titled, “Less we forget to Appreciate”, a member of the University Community, Prof. Sam Wobo said, “sometimes over four years, we battled our way to work each day through a terrible damaging road that claimed some lives, vehicles got damaged and some abandoned due to high cost of fixing the vehicles”.

He continued, “we saw a glimpse of what was to come during his inauguration by earth road fixing.  He gave his words to fight towards fixing the road.  Several trips to Abuja and constant phone calls with assurances, today I drove smoothly from Camp Junction to work with few places undergoing attention”.

Prof. Wobo concluded, “It takes a performer to recognize performance.  I salute and appreciate Prof. Felix K. Salako and his team for the great feat.  You have proved your mettle”.

It would be recalled that the Vice-Chancellor during his recent inspection tour of the Road noted that it was in a much better condition than it had been in the last few years.

The Vice-Chancellor re-affirmed that Camp/Alabata road rehabilitation project was fully funded by the Federal Government.

Prof. Salako expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the Visitor to the University, in particular, President Muhammadu Buhari for his support towards the rehabilitation even as he solicited for more support through prompt disbursement of fund for Federal road.
