The Vice Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, has admonished the new executive officers of the FUNAAB Students’ Union (FUNAABSU), to sustain the value which their predecessors have laid in the system. The Vice-Chancellor gave this charge during the Swearing-in/Handing-over ceremony of the newly-elected FUNABSU officers in the University. According to the Vice-Chancellor, “students and executives of the University have been known to be focused and I hope such value will be sustained.

He said that the swearing-in would be the fourth among the set of Students’ Union Executives to be sworn-in during his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor, promising to partner with the students at ensuring that the University moved forward. Professor Oyewole also advised the new executives to stand by the oath of office they took and discharge their duties effectively without being found wanting at the end of their tenure. The Vice-Chancellor added that the University Management would continue to do its best in meeting the needs of the students.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor ‘Yemi Akegbejo-Samsons, reminded the officers to be prudent in managing resources under the care, as they would give account of their stewardship. He also appreciated the outgone executives for their contributions to the development of the University. The Dean charged the new executive members to make the best use of their tenure by taking the University to greater heights, not only in Abeokuta, but throughout the country. Delivering his handing-over speech, the outgone President, Comrade Olajumoke Peter, appreciated all his colleagues and others who worked with him during his tenure as the President. He noted that his administration and its members have heaved a sigh of fulfillment, as they have witnessed another team being sworn-in. 

The newly sworn-in President, Comrade Dennis Nwenonye, while appreciating the University Management’s efforts towards making FUNAAB a leading institution, said they would be partners in progress. According to Comrade Nwenonye, “We can never attain world-class status without being world-class students” while appealing to the Vice-Chancellor to help look into the challenges facing the students.

The newly sworn-in FUNAABSU executives are: Dennis Nwenonye, 400-level, Department of Water Resources Management and Agrometereology as President; Olamide Balogun, 400-level, Environmental Management and Toxicology as Vice-President; Habeeb Oyekunle, 400-level, Horticulture as General Secretary; Wahab Ojokuye, 200-level, Horticulture as Assistant General Secretary and Ayobami Oyelere, 400-level, Environmental Management and Toxicology as Welfare Director.

Others are: Tobi Braimoh, 300-level, Department of Accountancy, Social Director; Lawal Olaotan, 200-level, Crop Protection as Public Relations Officer; Oludotun Aribo, 200-level, Agricultural Administration as Sports Secretary; Yusuf Azeez, 200-level, Banking and Finance as Financial Director while Ayotunde Akitemi, 400-level, Plant Physiology and Crop Production is the Treasurer.
