Senator Yayi Donates 50 Solar-Powered Streetlights, Five Mini Buses to FUNAAB

In a remarkable show of support for education, security, and sustainable development, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has received a significant infrastructure boost from Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, CON, widely known as Senator Yayi.

NEEDS Assessment Hostel/SUB Junction

The donation comprised 50 solar-powered streetlights and five minibuses for campus transportation, underscoring the Senator’s unwavering commitment to creating a safer and more conducive learning environment at FUNAAB.

COLVET Junction/Princess Bisi Soboyejo Hostel

The solar-powered streetlights, which were recently delivered and installed on June 18, 2025, across key points on campus, were aimed at improving night-time visibility, bolstering campus security, and promoting the University’s renewable energy agenda.

According to Engr. Funso Ipadeola, Director of the Directorate of Works and Services, said that the streetlights were distributed as follows:

ICTREC Frontage

👉 College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET) Junction to Princess Bisi Soboyejo Hostel – 10 units.

👉 NEEDS Assessment Hostel to SUB Junction – 16 units.

👉 Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE) /Postgraduate Hostel Road – 16 units.

👉 ICT Resource Centre Frontage – 2 units.

👉 Ceremonial Gate (External Area) – 6 units.

The donation is expected to significantly impact the daily experiences of students and staff by ensuring safer movement on campus after dark, while supporting the University’s environmental sustainability efforts in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9) – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, on behalf of the University Management, extended heartfelt appreciation to Senator Yayi for his generous and impactful gesture. He noted that the intervention was not only timely but also indicative of the Senator’s deep-rooted belief in the power of education and youth empowerment.
