The Google Student Ambassador (GSA) of the University, Mr. Mosopefoluwa Adefuye, has charged students in the nation’s ivory towers to sharpen their skills in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and make use of Google applications in their educational pursuits.

Adefuye, a 300-level student in the Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering gave the advice recently, during the training workshop organised for students titled, “Power Search and Effective Usage of Google Apps”.

According to him, Google has a variety of applications, which can aid the research and academic activities of students, by offering them a broad choice to select from the available options, thereby avoiding time wastage.

He revealed that the training was meant to introduce students to Google apps programmes for education, as the University will become more visible on the Google platform soon, while using Google apps in its activities such as sending of e-mails, cloud computing and making it possible for students to have customised e-mail addresses such as: studentmail@funaab.edu.ng

Other products in the Google education services include the Google Docs, which will enable students on group assignments to access a particular document at the same time whenever they are online. He added that the Google Docs could also be used simultaneously by a supervisor and the student, through which the project supervisor could edit a student’s project materials and make corrections without having any physical contact with the student, he stated.

Adefuye said that the training would be continous for students, as well as staff of the University, and that Google had proposed to provide free Internet access on campus wifi and give research grants to the University, among other benefits.

He added that the existing partnership between FUNAAB and Google would further be enhanced, as the University and its activities would be showcased online for the global audience.
