Abstract
The merits and demerits of the short rotation system in forestry are fully discussed. This paper reviews the use of fast-growing, high yielding and mainly short rotation species as a means of increasing wood production per unit area and time.
This is necessary so as to increase the potential of our forests to satisfy the increasing wood demands. The demands for forest products continue to increase, while the land available for growing them has been shrinking because of agricultural demands, urban expansion, and road development. Â Thus there is a need to increase the productivity of our availability forest land.
