The Government of Sierra-Leone has commended the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria (FUNAAB) for a successful host of the just concluded 2nd Edition of the Orientation/Acculturation programme organized by the Federal Scholarship Board in collaboration with FUNAAB for all scholars under Nigeria Commonwealth and Bilateral Education Agreement Scholarship.

The commendation came even as the Federal Scholarship Board honoured FUNAAB with Award of Excellence for contributing immensely to the success of its Programme at FUNAAB International Scholar and Resource Centre (ISRC) on Thursday, the Assistant Director, Federal Scholarship Board (FSB), Mr. R.W Akinyele delivered Sierra-Leone Government Goodwill Message, congratulating FUNAAB for successfully hosting the programme.

Mr. Akinyele, on behalf of FSB also presented Award of Excellence to FUNAAB for contributing to the development of the Board scholarship programme.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole received the Award plaque on behalf of the University.

Speaking at the occasion, FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor charged the foreign scholars to go back home at the end of their studies and develop their countries using their academic and social exposure.

Using South Africa as an example, Professor Oyewole recalled that he was an undergraduate during the dark days of apartheid in South Africa.

He pointed out that the same South Africa which was in turbulence then is today a force to reckon with, especially in Africa.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that there’s no nation that can’t bounce back strongly provided the citizenry are committed to revamping it.

Professor Oyewole charged the Foreign Scholars not to forget FUNAAB and Nigeria impact on their lives in future.

He admonished them to be good ambassadors of the University and Nigeria at large.

Plaques of honour were presented to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Toyin Arowolo, Director of Grants Management, Dr. Kayode Akinyemi, Director, Centre for Internationalization and Partnerships (CENIP), Dr. Akeem Oyekanmi, Head/Deputy Director, Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. ‘Lasun Somoye and others at the occasion.
