The Department of Soil Science and Land Management (SS&LM), College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), has won the just-concluded and maiden edition of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Students’ Union (FUNAABSU) Inter-departmental Football Championship.
The Final match between SS&LM and the Department of Water Resources Management and Agrometereorology (WRM&A), College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM) ended 1-0 with Tola Shonubi, on Jersey No. 9, scoring the winning goal at the 46th minute. Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole stated that the game of football was a powerful and unifying force all over the world as it was being witnessed with the current FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil, adding that it brings about friendship and sportsmanship.
Represented by the Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Bamidele Akindele, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the Management was committed to providing necessary support in building the students not only academically but in their all-round total well being. The Football Championship featured 37 teams from Colleges with the Department of Microbiology (MCB), College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS), taking the 3rd position.
Meanwhile, the FUNAABSU Intercollegiate Female Football Competition has also ended with the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) winning the tournament. The College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) came second, while the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) took the third position. The winners were presented with trophies and medals at the occasion.
