Short Profile

Engr. Dr. Oladapo Samson Abiola obtained OND Civil Engineering from The Polytechnic Ibadan in 1987, proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University to obtain a Bachelor degree in Engineering, M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from University of Ibadan and Ph.D. (Highway and Traffic Engineering from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 2010.

He has worked in the construction and consultancy firms. He is a practicing Engineer, Lecturer and a Researcher. He joined the service of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria in 2004 as Assistant Lecturer, where he has risen to the position of a Reader (Associate Professor) in Highway and Traffic Engineering. He has supervised over twenty-six undergraduate, Eighteen M.Eng. Dissertation, 2 PhD thesis, and currently has 6 PhD student under his supervision. Currently, the acting Head of Department, a member of several University committees and the University senate.

Dr. Abiola research focus is based on understanding the transportation system as an essential element of sustainable state or national economy. Roads have been and continue to be the backbone of land transportation network that provides the accessibility for the required mobility to support economic growth and promote social activities. To fully exploit the benefits of highway development and minimize possible adverse influences, highway engineer must expand his scope from merely meeting the basic needs of offering safe and speedy access from one point to another, there is need to focus not only the structural and functional requirements of highways and roads, but also addresses the socio-economic and environmental impacts of road network development. The areas of focus are as follow:

  • Pavement Performance and Condition Rating
  • Use of Waste Materials in Pavement Construction
  • Modifying Asphalt Concrete
  • Recycling of Pavement Materials
  • Improving Weak Pavement Materials
  • Traffic Safety
  • Forensic Investigation of Pavement Failure

He has attended many trainings and engineering conferences within and outside Nigeria. He has to his credit over 40 publications in journals, books and conference proceedings. Abiola is a registered member of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a corporate member of Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE).
