Prof. Olayide Rasaq Adetunji graduated from University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1987 with first class honours degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. He proceeded for his Master degree in the same department after a year of mandatory National Youth Service. He obtained Master’s degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering in 1991. He joined Midland Galvanizing Products Ltd. in 1991 where he worked for over twelve years and rose to the position of Deputy Manager Operations. He later moved to another multinational engineering company (Lafarge Africa Ewekoro Plant) to further his career in 2002. He got registered as professional engineer with Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in 2003. He worked in various departments like Production, Maintenance Planning and Inspection at Managerial level. He joined academic and research work in 2008 after gaining employment as lecturer II in the department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Nigeria. He was awarded Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering in October, 2012. He was promoted to the post of Senior Lecturer in October 2014, Associate Professor in October 2017 and full Professor in October, 2020. His research interests include; Corrosion Engineering, Novel Materials and Machinery Development, Energy Materials and Nanotechnology
He was department postgraduate research coordinator between 2015 and 2016, acting head of department of Mechanical Engineering between 2016 and 2018, and postgraduate research coordinator in his department from 2019 to 2020. He was a visiting lecturer to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun Campus between 2019 and 2021. He is the current Deputy Dean of College of Engineering, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
He has supervised over seventy five undergraduate students, eleven postgraduate diploma students and twenty four master degree students as at September, 2023. He has supervised five Ph.D students four of which are in area of Corrosion and Materials Engineering, and one in Design and Production Engineering. He has worn National recognition such as Postgraduate Scholarship Award of Federal Government of Nigeria, fellowship of the Science and Technology Education Post Basic (Step B) Project and TETFund Conference attendance grants. As a chartered engineer, he has developed a lot of machinery including a Cassava grater, Gari sieving machine, Gari Frying machine, Portable Maize Shelling Machine, Paint Mixer, Yam Peeling machine and Cooking Stove. He is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers, fellow of Materials Science and Technology Society and fellow of Nigerian Corrosion Association. He was National Auditor of Materials science and Technology society and currently the Continous Professional Development Coordinator, National Technical Secretary of Nigerian Corrosion Association and corporate member of Nigerian Metallurgical Society. He also belonged to some international professional societies like African Materials Research Society and Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) International. He has attended many national and international conferences.
He is an associate editor to some journals, a reviewer to many journals, external examiner and promotion assessor to many Universities.He has over seventy publications in learned journals and conference proceedings, some of which are listed below.
