Dr. (Mrs.) FolukeAdedayo AKANDE has hands-on practical experience in areas of Education, Animal Health and Veterinary Medicine especially in area of disease diagnoses that spanned through the course of sixteen years of university teaching, research and extension services at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Ogun state, Nigeria.
She attended District Council School, Olukotun and Local Authority Commercial Grammar School, both in Iwo, Osun state for her Primary and Secondary school education between 1981-1987 and 1988-1993 respectively. She then proceeded to the prestigious University of Ibadan in 1993; where she obtained Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Master of Science (M.Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in year 2002, 2009 and 2017 respectively. She became a fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeon Nigeria in 2018. She was a visiting scientist to the Luxembourg Institute of Health under the programme ‘RechercheMicrobiologique pour development III MAE” by Luxembourg Ministry of External Affairs & Cooperation in 2013, She is a Fellow of the Netherland Fellowship Program (NUFFIC) and has a certificate in Geographical Information System (GIS). from the Institute of Tropical Health (KIT), Amsterdam and University of Twente’s Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Enschede both in Netherlands on ''Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in disease control programmes'' in 2016. She won the African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN) grant on “The AFSCAN Survey: Ticks, Fleas and Arthropod-Borne Infectious Agents in Dogs and Cats in Sub-Saharan Africa”, where she represented Nigeria along with five other parasitologists from Sub-Sahara Africa (2018-till date). Her research interest is in the area of Parasite, Parasitic diseases and Diagnosis from which she has over 35peer reviewed articles in both local and foreign journals, she is registered with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association. She is a member of Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN).
She teaches parasitology to undergraduate and postgraduate students and she is a consultant Parasitology to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, FUNAAB. Abeokuta.
