Prof.
Olukayode Akinyemi had his PhD in Solid Earth Physics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, after which he proceeded to the Pontifical University of Curitiba, Brazil for postdoctoral research. He joined the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 1998 and became a Professor of Solid Earth Physics/Geophysics in 2013. Olukayode has graduated 20 postgraduate students in (Environmental) Solid Earth Physics/Geophysics (in addition to many others he had co-supervised). He has over eighty scientific publications and coordinates the Zero Pollution in Groundwater Resources research group in the University. He was Head of Department in 2008, and in 2012 he became the Director of Research Grants Management. In the same year he was a Visiting Scientist, Ecohydrology Department, Wageningen University, Netherlands. In 2014, he was the pioneer head of the Hydrology/Environmental Systems and Climate Change Programme. He is a trainer/consultant to HEIs on research project management, effective advancement, and research grants mobilization. He was the Association of African Universities Visiting Professor to the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Legon in 2016. He is a national and international grants assessor; recipient of institutional, national, and international research grants and fellowships; and he has successfully negotiated and implemented multi-national partnerships, collaborations, and research innovations. He led the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence in Agriculture and Environment until he assumed his current role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on January 5, 2024. He is certified in technology-led Teaching and Learning Innovations in HEIs, Postgraduate students’ Supervision, and Research Management, from the Department of Science Education, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Having headed both the Directorate of Internationalisation and Partnerships, and the Directorate of Academic Planning, at different times within the University, his interests include quality assurance, innovative curriculum development, benchmarking and ranking, and partnerships building. He has served as external examiner and he currently serves as a member of the editorial board of some onshore and offshore learned journals. Olukayode has assessed professorial promotions within and outside Nigeria, and has served on quality assurance committees for Physics/Geophysics undergraduate programme accreditations in and outside Nigeria. He is a fellow of the Indian Society of Earth Scientists; a member of Nigerian Institute of Physics and American Geophysical Union.
