Dr. (Mrs.) Atayese Adijat Olabisi is a Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Nigeria, and a Research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), FUNAAB. A medical and environmental microbiologist, she began her career as a technologist. She progressively rose to Chief Laboratory Scientist in the Department of Microbiology, where she built extensive expertise in clinical mycology, bacteriology, laboratory management, and student training.
Her research focuses on antimicrobial agents, fungal pathogens, and the intersection of environment and public health. Her foundational work examined the comparative effectiveness of chitosan and ketoconazole against clinical isolates of Candida species (Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, C. glabrata and C. parapsilosis), showing potent antifungal activity of chitosan including against resistant isolates. Through CEADESE, her research has expanded to sustainable agriculture and environmental health, including studies on hospital medical waste characterization, groundwater quality around market waste-collection sites in Abeokuta, and heavy metal accumulation and health risk assessment in Pleurotus ostreatus cultivated on agricultural residues. She has also contributed to public health research on the effect of antiretroviral therapy on CD4 counts among HIV-seropositive individuals in Abeokuta.
Dr. Atayese has published over twenty papers in reputable local and international journals, with active visibility on ResearchGate. She is a member of professional academic bodies, a conference presenter, and is engaged in teaching, postgraduate supervision, and multidisciplinary sustainable development research.
