(c) Research and Contributions to Knowledge
Major Research Accomplishments
My research work has focused extensively on groundwater investigation using integrated geophysical methods of geophysical prospecting. I have also used other methods of prospecting to delineate the subsurface structure for mineral exploration. The following are some of the significant contributions I have made in my research areas of interest:
(i). I have carried out series of field experiment in my locality to determine subsurface contamination in the vicinity of refuse dumps. The major contribution here was to establish the WHO standards for water consumption amongst water wells, borehole drilled within refuse dump sites
(Articles 1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 21, 38 and 39).
(ii). I have also used electrical resistivity methods of prospecting to classify the geology of my locality (sedimentary, complex basement and transitional zones) so as to establish the aquifer characteristics for groundwater potentials and be able to have guidelines for water engineers as well as borehole drillers (Articles 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 25 and 26).
(iii). I have carried out theoretical work on seismic waves in anisotropic earth media. Here, we were trying to study the propagation of seismic waves in various earth media and compared with the direction of groundwater flow. Also arising from this, we were able to understand clearly the numerical model to study the effect of sediment size and depth in the movement of groundwater in an open channel bends systems (Articles 5 and 7).
(iv). I did an extensive research work on mineral exploration and mineral reserve estimates within and around southwestern Nigeria, using integrated geophysical approaches. My main goal was to explore areas where mineral deposits like Mica, Limestone, Kaolin Clay, Tourmaline and other gemstones are located as well as distinguishing between their qualities and quantify the amount of reserve deposits. This gave me a lead way to observe the effects of these mineral deposits on the groundwater potentials
of the area where they are located (Articles 10, 12, 15, 17, 31, 32 and 35).
(v). It has not been easy carrying out these research works because of the unavailability of equipment and manpower. This has handicapped a number of good research participation in this area of geophysics. And as such, I tried to carry out fabrication of equipment for resistivity measurement and
these are effectively in use (Articles 8 and 30).
(vi). In the recent time, I have collaborated with colleagues working on the interpretation techniques of magnetic data acquired via aeromagnetic by Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA). Here, we have used various methods to calculated depth estimate and source location as well as distinguishing
between shallow and deep magnetic sources within the study locations (Articles 23, 29, 33 and 34)
