BANKOLE Paul Olusegun

Short Profile

Dr Paul Olusegun Bankole bagged his M.Sc and PhD with Distinctions at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. His broad research focus encompasses but not limited to sampling, monitoring, and biodegradation of organic pollutants (plastics, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, pharmaceutical products and textile azo dyes) in the environment. He has authored and co-authored articles in reputable, peer-reviewed international journals such as Microbiological Research, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, and International Journal of Biological Macromolecules in the field of Mycology and Environmental Biotechnology. He has presented papers at reputable national and international conferences. He is a recipient of international awards, fellowships and grants such as the Nuffic Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) Scholarship, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Blue Charter Award Fellowship, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Early Career Grant, Turkiye Burslari Research Award and The World Academy of Science (TWAS) Research and Advanced Training. He recorded a landmark achievement on laboratory and field-scale eco-friendly bioremediation of textile azo dyes and effluents. He has in recent times deployed different fungi, yeast, mushrooms and bacteria in the degradation of PAHs, pharmaceuticals and textile azo dyes in laboratory microcosms. He has carried out Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) of ample number of microbes with pollutant degrading capacity isolated from different environmental compartments in Nigeria and Lancaster, United Kingdom.
