Short Profile

Dr. Deji Abiodun EKUNSEITAN was born 12th December, 1983 in the ancient town of Ibadan to the family of Mr. E.B. Ekunseitan and Mrs R.A. Ekunseitan. He had his primary education at Mulas Nursery and Primary School, Ring-road, Ibadan (1987-1990), Saint Kizito’s Primary School (1990-1992) and Queens Private School, Lagos (1992-1994). He proceeded to Saint Gregory’s College, Obalende (1994-1995), Egbado High School, Igbogila (1995-1998) and Anwar-Ul-Islam College, Oniwaya, Agege, Lagos (1998-2000) for his secondary school education.

His quest for knowledge stimulated him to pursue a degree in Animal Science (Animal Production and Health) from 2002 to 2008 at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and graduated in First Class honours division. He completed his Masters’ of Agriculture programme in 2012 and Doctorate degree programme in 2016 in Non-Ruminant Production at the same University.

Dr. Ekunseitan joined the services of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in November, 2010 as a Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Animal Production and Health. This appointment came as result of his outstanding academic performance. He rose to the position of Assistant Lecturer in 2012 and currently a Lecturer II in the Department.

He has accolades of awards: Senate Annual Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production and College Award (2007/2008), Senate Annual Prize for First Class Honours Graduating Student (2007/2008), Ogun State Printing Corporation for Best Graduating Student in College of Animal Science and Livestock Production, Best Outgoing Student, College of Animal Science and Livestock Production, Nigeria Animal Science Students’ Association (NASSA) award in 2007/2008.

Dr. Ekunseitan research interests is in Animal Health with special preference to Phytobiotics: Alternative options and interventions in disease control of poultry using locally available plants (Currently using Lagenaria breviflora and Petiveria alliacea) and Production systems modifications as means of alleviating various effects of stress in non-ruminant animals and promotion of organic products. He worked in producing a novel product for replacement of conventional ingredient (Soybean meal) using market and abattoir wastes during his Masters’ of Agriculture programme under the tutelage of Prof. O.O. Balogun (Past Vice-Chancellor, FUNAAB).

Dr. Ekunseitan has several journals to his credit. In addition, he is a registered member of World Poultry Science Association (Nigeria Branch), Nigerian Society of Animal Production, Animal Science Association of Nigeria and also a Registered Animal Scientist (RAS) of Nigeria Institute of Animal Science (NIAS).
