Professor Olusegun Mark Obafemi Idowu is a distinguished Professor of Animal Nutrition and an accomplished academic, researcher and university administrator at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria. He commenced his academic career at FUNAAB as a Graduate Assistant in 1997 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Animal Nutrition in 2014. He currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), FUNAAB, a position he assumed in December 2025. He has also served as Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), Director of the FUNAAB Distance Learning Centre, Acting Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Chairman of several university committees. Professor Idowu obtained his B.Agric. in Animal Nutrition, M.Agric. in Monogastric Nutrition and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition (Monogastric), all from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. His research interests centre on monogastric nutrition, with particular emphasis on the utilization of non-conventional feed resources for poultry and rabbits, mineral nutrition, organic poultry production, feed additives and strategies for reducing cholesterol in poultry products. His research also addresses sustainable and locally adaptable approaches to improving animal productivity and food security. He has an extensive record of scholarly contributions, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international scientific conferences. His academic career is further distinguished by substantial teaching, mentorship and research supervision, including the supervision of 120 undergraduate projects as recorded in his curriculum vitae. Professor Idowu has received several scholarships, research grants, conference grants and international training awards, including TETFUND and EDULINK support. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society for Animal Production, Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Animal Science Association of Nigeria and World’s Poultry Science Association, Nigeria Branch.
