ISAH Olubukola Ajike (PhD)

Professor Olubukola Ajike Isah is a Ruminant Nutritionist at the Department of Animal Nutrition, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Professor Isah obtained her B.Sc. Agriculture degree in Animal Science, M.Sc. Animal Science degree in the area of Animal products and handling and a PhD degree in Animal Nutrition. She joined Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria as an Assistant Lecturer in the year 1995 and became a Senior Lecturer in 2004. However, due to family relocation, she transferred her services to the Federal University of Abeokuta, as a lecturer II in 2005, and rose to the rank of a Professor in 2015. She was a recipient of Travelling Fellowship to Nairobi Kenya for grant proposal presentation workshop organized by the African Economic Research Consortium (2005) and for paper presentation at AAS-ICIPE-TWAS-ROSSA Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, on ‘Climate Change and Food security: The Road for Africa’ and a participant in the 25th Anniversary of African Academy of Science (AAS) and 40th Anniversary of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) Celebrations (2011). She is a Fellow of African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), based in Nairobi, Kenya. In the year 2009 to 2011, she was the Chair in the Department of Animal Nutrition of her current university, as the Acting Head. Olubukola Isah is a registered member of Nigerian Institute of Animal Scientist. She participates in promotion assessment of younger colleagues within and outside her University. She is an external examiner to Animal Science Department for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in other Universities.

Her research areas include identification and nutritive evaluation of non-conventional forages and feed supplements for dry-season feeding, and their effect on climate change. Molecular study on modifying ruminant microbes to bring about improved productivity of livestock with a focus on sustainability of indigenous breeds of cattle, sheep and goats. Olubukola has authored and co-authored over 76 peer reviewed research publications. She has trained several undergraduate and postgraduate students currently earning their livelihood in Nigeria and other parts of the world. Isah is also working with a rural community in Ogun state that produces Red Sokoto goats. She goes there to train the women’s group on how to improve their goats’ productivity by making use of plants and crop waste in their vicinity without extra financial cost. She hopes to continue research that will impact positively on the small ruminant farmers, most of whom are women.
