Prof. Salami Olasunkanmi ISMAILA obtained National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction at Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in 1986; a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree (Upper Division) in Mechanical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1990; Master of Science (MSc.) degree and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Industrial and Production Engineering at University of Ibadan in 2000 and 2006 respectively. He was in the industry for 15 years before joining the academic community as a Lecturer in 2007.

He has won many awards such as Best National Diploma Graduating Student and Federal Government Postgraduate Scholarship. He is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Industrial Engineers and Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He is a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

His major research focus is on the application of technologies to the study of the human anatomical, anthropometric, physiological, and biomechanical as they relate to the physical activity of man, a discipline in Industrial Engineering. The topics under this ergonomics include working postures, materials handling, repetitive movements, work-related musculoskeletal disorders, workplace layout, safety, and health.

His research work has made a remarkable achievement and breakthrough in establishing some anthropometric data of Nigerian students, establishing models for manual lifting, models for backpack mass limit, predicting peak expiratory flow rate of Nigerian workers, design of furniture, noise exposure, and ergonomic risk analysis.

He has published 84 journal articles in reputable international and local journals; 8 articles in peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings, published a book and registered a patent.
He has supervised or co-supervised 11 PhD, 22 MSc. and 50 undergraduate students.

He was a Director of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Bureau of Transportation, Deputy Dean and later Dean, of the College of Engineering, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He was also the Technical Secretary of the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET)
