Mudasiru Opeyemi Muideen (Ph.D.) is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Pure and Applied Botany at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State. He bagged his Ph.D and M.Sc. with Distinctions in Botany (Plant Taxonomy and Biosystematics) at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a passionate teacher and researcher with competence in Plant Identification, Environmental Biology, Electrophoresis, PCR, DNA Sequence, Molecular Phylogenetics and Plant Systematic Anatomy. His research interest include Plant Taxonomy, Molecular Systematics, Biogeography, Floristic Inventory and Conservation.
Dr. Mudasiru has undertaken substantial research in Plant Taxonomy and Molecular systematics, applying several taxonomical tools for plant identification, systematic descriptions, nomenclature, species boundaries and delimitation of the taxa. He is an awardee of 2018 TWAS-CSIR Sandwich Ph.D. Research Fellowship. He was able to visit CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Uttar Pradesh, India for his Ph.D. bench work on Phylogenetic considerations of Combretaceae species in Nigeria under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) T. S. Rana. He has the ability to elucidate the phylogenetic relationships among the species of Combretaceae using DNA sequence data from the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) and plastid DNA regions (matK, rbcL and psbA-trnH).
Dr. Mudasiru, O.M. has publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented papers at reputable national and international conferences, workshops, symposia and research training programmes. He is a life member of International Society of Environmental Botanists (ISEB), Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON) and Nigeria Field Society (NFS). His diverse experience and commitment to plant diversity make him an invaluable contributor to the field of Botany. As an academic staff in the Department of Pure and Applied Botany, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, he has been involved in virtual and physical classroom teaching on Plant Taxonomy and Biosystematics, Angiosperm Morphology, Developmental Biology, Plant Anatomy, Conservation and Biodiversity, Nigerian vegetation and other plant related courses to undergraduate students. He has also been involved in mentoring SIWES students participating in the Industrial training at FUNAAB Botanical Garden. Dr. Mudasiru O. M. is currently a Curator of FUNAAB Herbarium and Secretary, Departmental Board. He is also the College Board Representative on FUNAABOT.
