Dr ‘Seun Mustapha is an Assistant Professor at the Federal University of
Agriculture, Abeokuta with over ten years of teaching experience in Veterinary
Anatomy.
He is a Veterinary Doctor by training, having obtained his Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine with Distinctions from the prestigious University of Ibadan. He obtained
both his Masters and PhD degree in Neurobiology from the same institution,
conducting all his research bench work for both degrees at the University of Wurzburg
and University of Leipzig, respectively; both in Germany.
As a researcher, he is a well-drilled neuroscientist with bias for neuroanatomy,
developmental neuroscience and comparative vertebrate morphology. He is keenly
interested in exploring and describing the biology of indigenous African rodents, and
advancing the drive in adopting these rodents as animal models for translational
research. Specifically, his research has focused on two promising African rodents: the
African giant rat (Cricetomys gambianus) and the Greater cane rat (Thryonomys
swinderianus)– two unique rodents with uncommon phenotypes.
He has published numerous articles and papers on the morpho-functional anatomy,
developmental biology and neuroanatomy of these rodents in various high ranked
journals.
He has won several awards and grants both at local and international levels. Amongst
are such as African Academy of Science Grant (2016); International Society
for Neurochemistry Award (2017); International Brain Research
Organization Award (2014, 2020); just to mention a few. Recently, he won the
International Brain Research Organization Award (2022) to do a
postdoctoral study in Harvard University.
