Dr. NUGA Olubusola Olufunke is a distinguished academic, researcher, and Registered Engineer (COREN) currently serving as a Reader and Acting Head of Department in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria. She holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Control Systems Engineering) from The University of Manchester, United Kingdom, an M.Sc. from the University of Lagos, and a B.Tech (Second Class Upper Division) from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.
Olubusola’s research portfolio is highly interdisciplinary, bridging control systems, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and biomedical engineering. Her current research interests encompass power system security assessment using fuzzy logic, machine learning applications for chronic kidney disease prediction and livestock diagnostics, solar-powered cooling systems, electric vehicle battery management, and electroencephalogram-based signal modeling of olfactory perception in African giant rats. Her impactful research has attracted prestigious funding, including multiple TETFund Institutional-Based Research (IBR) interventions and a National Research Fund (NRF) grant for the development of an odour detection device.
A prolific scholar, ‘Busola has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers, including presentations at the 15th IEEE International Conference on Control and Automation (ICCA) in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her publications cover diverse innovative topics such as AI-driven language models (YorubaAI), IoT-based health monitoring systems, smart energy control meters, and robotic vehicles. Furthermore, she is deeply committed to academic capacity building, having successfully supervised and currently mentoring multiple Master’s and Ph.D. candidates in cutting-edge areas like predictive control for manufacturing, industrial process management, and waste-to-energy conversion.
Beyond her academic and research pursuits, Busola is an active member of the global engineering community, holding professional memberships in the IEEE (USA), IET (UK), and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). She also demonstrates strong leadership and community service as the Assistant General Secretary of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN). Through her dedicated teaching, mentorship, and innovative research, Olubusola continues to make significant contributions to engineering education and technological advancement in Nigeria and beyond.
