Dr. Chidera Valentine ODO is a lecturer at the Department of Pure and Applied Botany, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He joined the services of FUNAAB as a lecturer II in 2025 and specializes in Plant Genetics and Molecular Biology.
He obtained B.Sc in Plant Science and Biotechnology, M.Sc and Ph.D in Genetics and Plant Breeding all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was a Ph.D scholarship awardee of the UNESCO International Centre for Biotechnology in 2022. His Ph.D research centered on the Nutritional and Molecular Characterization of some Wild Macrofungi of Southeastern Nigeria. He is passionate about plant genetic diversity with most of his research focusing on the agro-morphological, biochemical and molecular characterization of underutilized plant species in sub-Saharan Africa. He has attended and presented research papers at a good number of learned conferences and has also published in reputable local and international journals. He is a member of professional bodies such as the Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON), Genetic Society of Nigeria (GSN), Nigerian Plant Breeders Association (NPBA) and African Plant Breeders Association (APBA). He has also participated actively in a good number of capacity training workshops.
As a board member of College of Biological Sciences, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, he has taught courses such as Introductory Molecular Biology, Plant Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, Plant Genetics, Molecular Biology I & II and Biostatistics both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised some undergraduate projects and co-supervised postgraduate dissertations. In 2026, he served as the secretary of the Department of Pure and Applied Botany accreditation committee.
