OKE, Folasade Olukemi 

Short Profile

Dr. (Mrs) Folasade Olukemi Oke is a Consumer Welfare and Food Economist. She had her PhD in Agricultural Economics with an option in Consumer Welfare and Food Economics at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, in 2018. Before this, she also had an M. Agric. in Agricultural Economics (PhD grade) and a B. Agric. in Agricultural Economics with a Second Class Upper Division (4.37/5.00) from this same University in 2011 and 2006, respectively. She won the prestigious excellence award from the Ogun State Government of Nigeria during her B. Agric. programme.

Dr. Oke had an excellent background in Economics and Statistics and a strong passion for transforming food systems for food security, improved nutrition and affordable diets for all. Dr Folasade Oke commenced her academic career as an Extension Fellow II at the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre and anchored in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, on August 1, 2019. She rose to the position of Extension Fellow I in October 2022.

She has served in various capacities at the University and, presently, is the Coordinator, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Programme at the University and also a committee member of the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre Media Work Display. Her research focuses on transforming food production systems to alleviate hunger and malnutrition in rural economies. She teaches Agricultural, Micro and Welfare Economics courses at the University's Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels with extension activities in rural livelihood and welfare improvement to eradicate hunger, malnutrition, food insecurity and poverty.

Dr. Oke has successfully supervised fifteen undergraduate students, currently supervising seven undergraduate students and two master’s students. She has seventeen publications in national and international journals and six refereed conference proceedings to her credit and attended conferences, trainings and workshops in Nigeria. She is currently a co-instigator on an EU-funded project titled ‘Promoting Digital Solutions for Farmers in Remote Communities to Adapt to Climate Change. She is willing to hone her skills and engage in comprehensive collaboration. She is happily married and blessed with wonderful children.
