Oluseye Olusegun Onabanjo is a Professor of Community Nutrition at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria. I have served as the Head of Department, Nutrition and Dietetics at the same University from 2018 - 2020. I received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the South African National Research Council to conduct research at the Centre of Excellence for Nutrition, North West University Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa between 2009 and 2011. I was a grantee and Research fellowship with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Ibadan on thesis titled “Development and Nutritional evaluation of optimized complementary foods formulated from yellow fleshed cassava roots and leaves” March 2004–June 2007. I won the Federal Government of Nigeria Postgraduate Scholarship in the year 2000 for his Masters degree programme. I have been author and co-author of over 75 papers published in peer reviewed journals and written and edited some textbooks. I am a member of Nutrition Society of Nigeria, African society of Nutrition, African Graduate Nutrition Network and African Nutrition Leadership Programme. I have participated in a number of field surveys sponsored by the World Bank and UNICEF among which are: State Coordinator Step B project on Food Composition Database in Nigeria (Ogun and Lagos States), State Coordinator Studies on the Intake and Impact of Vitamin A, Retinol, Iodine and other Micronutrient (Ogun State) by UNICEF. I have been involved with a number of international and national organisations concerned with nutrition of the vulnerable groups. I am currently serving on the Nigerian Food Consumption and Nutrition Survey Working Group.
Prof. Onabanjo was born in Ikorodu, Nigeria in September 16, and hails from same Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1997, Masters and Doctorate (PhD) degrees in 2001 and 2006 respectively, from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria. I began my lecturing career at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Nigeria in 2005 in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. The scope of my research stretches from molecular, biochemical, clinical studies and epidemiology. Oluseye Onabanjo background research interest is in public health and community nutrition with focus on factors affecting the nutritional status and health of Nigerian mothers and children, role of micronutrients in early childhood development and immune function. The focus is not only on undernutrition and morbidity, but also on the possible link between maternal malnutrition and risk of non-communicable diseases in their offspring. My research also focuses on assessing dietary intake and nutritional status of pregnant women, and determining associations thereof with birth outcomes, maternal and offspring health. The influences of environmental factors like mycotoxins on nutrition of pregnant women and child development are also investigated. I have mentored and graduated ten doctoral students and several Masters Degree students in the area of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
