ONIFADE, Comfort Adenike

Short Profile

Comfort Adenike ONIFADE is a Professor of Social Studies and the immediate past Head of Department
of Communication and General Studies, College of Agricultural Management & Rural Development,
Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. She holds a PhD from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria
(2002). Her areas of research include: gender issues, conflict studies and contemporary social problems.
She presented the 77 th Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta on 7th June
2023.
She has many published works in reputable national and international journals focusing on gender
differences, factors hindering women higher education, ethno - religious conflicts and insecurity
challenges in Nigeria among others. She has conducted many researches on all categories of people,
from primary school pupils to secondary, tertiary institutions’ students as well as among rural
households.
Her current research funded by Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND) is on the effect of violence against
women on the welfare of women and children in Ogun and Kwara States, Nigeria. She has successfully
supervised 6 PhDs, 20 Masters and over 150 Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) students.
She belongs to some professional Associations and bodies. She is a member, National Steering
Committee of the Civil Society Coalition on Sustainable Development in Nigeria (CSCSD).
She is currently the National President of the Nigerian Association of University Women (NAUW) having
served as the Coordinator of International Relations (CIR) of the Association from 2019 to 2022. Nigerian
Association of University Women is an affiliate of the Graduate Women International with Headquarters
in Geneva, Switzerland.
She is the convenor and organiser of some conferences and workshops one of which is the Conference
on “Humanising the Sciences” (HUSCON 2021)
An educationist to the core, Prof. Comfort Onifade’s experience of 20 years as a secondary school
teacher has been of immense advantage in her social responsibility among teenagers and youth. She is
actively involved in teenage sensitization on social ills including cultism, human trafficking and teenage
pregnancy. She is the president of the Initiative for Peace and Comfort, an NGO with focus on peaceful
living in the home and society, women and youth empowerment, children protection and the girl child
education.
She is happily married to Prof. Olufemi Sunday Onifade and blessed with children and grandchildren.
