Short Profile

Professor Onwuka was born 60 years ago at Ibadan Oyo State. He attended Edo Government College, Benin City, and St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku for his secondary school education which he completed in 1971. He was back at Edo Government College, Benin City between 1972 and 1973 for the Sixth form and sat for and obtained the Higher School Certificate (H.S.C.) in June 1973. He proceeded to the University of Ibadan in 1975. He stayed at the University of Ibadan for 8 years during which by divine grace and hard work he obtained the degrees of B.Sc. Agric. Biochemistry and Nutrition, Second Class (Honours) – Upper Division in 1978, M.Sc. Animal Science (Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition) in 1980 and Ph.D. (Animal Science) Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition in 1983. Prof. Onwuka is an accomplished academic and researcher who started his working life as a Teacher at St. Columbus’ Grammar School, Agbor between 1973 and 75. He had a brief stint at United Bank for Africa, (UBA) Ltd. Benin‑City in 1975. On graduation from Ibadan in 1978, He was posted to the Nigerian Livestock and Meat Authority – Poultry Production Unit, Ilorin for the mandatory National Service (NYSC) between 1978 and 1979. His love for teaching made him also help out at Government Secondary School, Ilorin during the same period. He took up an appointment as Agric Officer II Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Benin‑City in the old Bendel State. His stay was very brief as he was back at Ibadan the same year for his Postgraduate studies. During his graduate studies at Ibadan, he also served as a Teaching Assistant; Department of Animal Science. On completion of his Doctorate programme in 1983 he worked at Kikachikwu Agricultural Enterprises, Benin-City /Ogwashi-Uku as Production Manager in Charge of Feed mill and Parents stock.The then Dr. C.F.I. Onwuka was appointed as a Lecturer II at the University of Uyo in 1984. He Left Uyo as a Lecturer I and took up an appointment as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 1990 and attained the rank of Full Professor on 1st., October 1998. He served in several capacities in the University including, Dean of Students Affairs, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).
